New 108-foot Explorer Yacht Can Travel 3,000 Miles

Virus, the tri-deck vessel, is expected to reach 14 knots at top speed.

Virus may evoke negative feelings for many today, but for this team of designers, those five letters sparked an idea for a bold superyacht.

An international yacht agency called Jonacor Marine collaborated with Finnish shipyard Brizo Yachts on the 108-foot explorer Virus. As of now, the duo has delivered five hulls and has a number of other vessels in the works. However, Virus is by far the largest vessel developed by the two companies. If a buyer is found, it will also be Brizo’s largest yacht.‍

To the aft, three decks cascade down to a swim platform with a tender storage area, while the foredeck offers a lounge perfect for alfresco dining.

The designers do not yet have images of the interior, but they claim the living quarters provide guests with maximum privacy and plenty of space to kick back and relax. Virus might be an ideal place to isolate from the outside world.‍

This virus can travel across the high seas easily, as its name implies. With a top speed of 14 knots and a range of 3,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots, she can be equipped with twin Scania HD V8 DI16 diesel engines. For eco-conscious seafarers, a hybrid-propulsion system or engines from another brand could also be fitted to the vessel.

This yacht will cost $12 million (€12 million), and Jonacor Marine estimates it will take about two years to build.
