A $16.8M Jamaican Hideaway Featured by Bob Marley

Ever dreamed of living like a celebrated reggae icon who sold over 20 million albums in his lifetime? Well, now you have the chance, as the serene Jamaican retreat featured prominently in the newly released film “One Love” is now available for purchase at $16.8 million.

This tranquil haven, showcased in the biopic, served as a sanctuary for the late Bob Marley (portrayed by Kingsley Ben-Adir) as he recuperated following a harrowing assassination attempt in the 1970s. The property also holds a storied history, having been frequented by iconic figures such as the Rolling Stones and Willie Nelson, and earning recognition in Patricia Schultz’s book “1,000 Places to See Before You Die.”

Nestled amidst a secluded 26-acre expanse atop Jamaica’s majestic Blue Mountains—a UNESCO World Heritage Site renowned for its coffee plantations, diverse wildlife, and breathtaking scenery—the boutique luxury resort in St. Andrew, near Kingston, is being listed by the U.S. marketing team of Ivan Hernandez, Leslie Cooper, and Alex Miranda at Compass.

Known as Strawberry Hill Hotel, this charming abode with its white wood-framed architecture and shingle roof has been under the ownership of Island Records founder Chris Blackwell since 1974. Blackwell commissioned local architect Ann Hodges to oversee the restoration of the property in the 1980s following damage inflicted by Hurricane Gilbert.

Originally established in the 18th century, Strawberry Hill Hotel traces its origins to a coffee plantation and strawberry farm gifted by the Royal Family in 1780 to Horace Walpole, the 4th Earl of Orford and son of Prime Minister Robert Walpole. Over the years, the site served various purposes, including a naval hospital for foreign officers in the late 18th century, before passing through the hands of several prominent Jamaican families and ultimately landing in Blackwell’s possession.

Today, Strawberry Hill Hotel forms part of Blackwell’s esteemed Island Outpost hotel collection. The property comprises 13 Georgian-style cottages, featuring plantation shutters, intricately crafted fretwork fanlights, elegant mahogany four-poster beds, and French doors leading to private verandas. Additionally, guests can enjoy amenities such as a restaurant and bar, an indoor/outdoor spa with five treatment rooms, an infinity-edge swimming pool, a yoga pavilion, meandering pathways to secluded pergolas, and even a helipad. Moreover, the listing presents an opportunity for the prospective buyer to expand the property with an additional 16 villas.
