7 Bonkers Boat: Shark-Shaped to a Garbage-Eating Catamaran

Yacht concepts serve as the driving force behind innovative design, offering a diverse array of imaginative creations that range from the surreally crafted AI-designed vessels to Feadship’s ambitious 272-foot Dunes concept, aiming to construct a net-zero superyacht. These attention-grabbing concepts create a vibrant landscape for superyacht design, showcasing the industry’s constant pursuit of new ideas and possibilities.

One notable concept is Pegasus, a 290-foot design by Jozeph Forakis, hailed as the world’s first 3D-printed superyacht. Leveraging robotic printing for both hull and superstructure, this innovative approach promises reduced energy consumption, materials, waste, space, and construction time compared to traditional methods. Pegasus introduces unique features, including mirrored wings, an aquarium-style lap pool, and a multi-level hydroponic garden named the “tree of life” for cultivating fresh produce and onboard air purification.

Lazzarini Design’s Outrageous

Lazzarini Design’s Outrageous stands out for its sheer extravagance, boasting a staggering length of 1,056 feet. Inspired by a hammerhead shark, its exterior mimics the shark’s features, such as a gray paint job resembling serrated teeth. The design includes a double helideck, a private tender port, solar panels, and five pools, offering an opulent and visually striking experience.

J. David Weiss’s Circular Wave

Circular Wave, a concept by J. David Weiss, takes a unique approach by addressing the ocean’s trash problem. This 262.5-foot hybrid power catamaran serves as a floating research platform, featuring a “scoop” between the hulls to collect plastics, fishing nets, and brown algae. The collected materials are processed onboard and converted into biofuels to power the yacht’s electric and hydrogen systems.

Leoni Design’s FY69

Leoni Design’s FY69, based on a 226-foot naval frigate, combines sleek, aerodynamic lines with polished metallic accents and luxurious interiors. Advanced navigation systems, eco-friendly propulsion, and a glass-bottomed pool contribute to its appeal, accommodating 12 guests in six cabins with a crew of 17.

ThirtyC’s Shard

The 403.5-foot Shard by ThirtyC showcases numerous glass elements, offering panoramic views and a strong connection with the surrounding seascape. Fitted with solar panels for reduced environmental impact, it includes a spa, wellness center, gym, cinema, sundeck Jacuzzi, and a dedicated beach club with water toys.

Christian Leyk’s Passepartout

Passepartout, a 223-foot explorer concept by Christian Leyk, emphasizes efficient cruising for world circumnavigation. The yacht features a narrow hull, the owner’s cabin with folding balconies, and a private garden. Designed for comfort and safety in various weather conditions, it incorporates shutters for protection in colder climates or shade in sunnier destinations.

T. Fotiadis Design’s Velvet Sky

T. Fotiadis Design’s Velvet Sky, a 269-foot creation, redefines on-water entertainment with a low-profile water-level profile. Inspired by waterfront villas, it offers a spacious main deck with panoramic windows, maintaining a sense of openness. The stern features an open deck blending into a full-beam beach club for direct water access.

Jay Aberdoni’s Arrakeen

Arrakeen, a retro-futuristic 230-foot diesel-electric concept by Jay Aberdoni, draws inspiration from classic car shapes. With a low profile, gullwing doors, and a private Jacuzzi accessible only from the owner’s cabin, Arrakeen aims to evoke a highly minimalistic yet aggressive yacht, sparking dreams of a future with a retrospective touch.
