With over $71 million in prize money, and millions in endorsement deals, Vijay Singh has built up a small portfolio of plum properties that extend from the East Coast to Hawaii.
In an effort to lighten his real estate load, the 59-year-old legend hopes to list his vast oceanfront estate in Honomu, on the rugged east coast of the Big Island of Hawaii, for $23 million. With a price near the asking price, the professional putter will more than quadruple the amount he paid for the property about 13 years ago.
On its way to the 52-acre estate’s 9,000-square-foot mansion, a gated drive passes through a stand of Norfolk pines that give way to towering royal palms, which overlook numerous acres of manicured lawn and a mile of ocean frontage, where he can practice his swing, work on his putting, and toss balls off the cliff into the ocean.
This rusticated stone and stucco home, built in 2004, has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, plus two additional powder rooms for guests. Instead of adhering to typical Hawaiian architectural conventions, the house looks more like a suburban mansion in Cleveland or Connecticut. An Ohana unit with one bedroom and one bathroom is also available for family and guests.
With a double-height foyer, spacious living and dining rooms, a chef’s kitchen that’s up-to-date, an elevator, a library with custom bookcases, and a laundry room that’s bigger than most people’s kitchens, the residence is commodious, comfortable, and casually luxurious. In addition to its fireplace, private sitting room, and spacious closet, the second-floor primary suite spans 2,800 square feet on its own. There is a wraparound lanai that offers views of the coastline, horizon, and ocean from the spacious suite.
A simple rectangular pool and a lawn that rolls down the cliff above the pounding surf are viewed from an arched lanai. There are 10 acres of Macadamia nut trees, as well as citrus and avocado orchards on the property, according to listings held by Kenneth Springer at Hawaii Life.
