Marc Andreessen’s $33M Longtime Silicon Valley Estate

Marc Andreessen, a prominent figure in the realms of technology, cryptocurrency, and venture capital, has amassed a significant real estate portfolio in Malibu, with properties totaling more than $255 million. Among these holdings are a compound in Paradise Cove consisting of 13 structures, an adjacent property valued at $34 million, and another home on Escondido Beach valued at $44.5 million. Given his substantial presence in the coastal city of Southern California, it comes as little surprise that Andreessen, along with his wife Laura Arillaga, has opted to list their long-held residence in Northern California.

The listed price for the property stands at slightly over $33 million, approximately double the amount the couple paid for it over 17 years ago in early 2007. Constructed in the mid-1990s by custom builder Colin Whiteside, the gated spread spans 1.5 acres in Atherton, an affluent enclave in Silicon Valley. The estate comprises a main Tuscan-style mansion, a guesthouse, and a separate office/studio, offering a total of five bedrooms and seven bathrooms across more than 12,400 square feet.

Approaching the main residence, visitors are greeted by a circular driveway leading to a terrace adorned with carved balustrades and balconies. Inside, a foyer featuring herringbone-style cherry floors and a grand staircase sets the tone, leading to three-story living spaces equipped with modern amenities such as an elevator servicing all levels, seven fireplaces, and advanced home automation, security, and surveillance systems.

The living areas include a soundproof suede-walled space with automated window shades, a concealed projector, and a retractable cinema screen. Additionally, there’s a formal dining room served by two well-appointed kitchens fitted with high-end appliances from Bosch, Hestan, Kitchen-Aid, Miele, Sub-Zero, and Wolf. A family room opens to a covered terrace with a built-in barbecue, while a den with an adjoining office, a recreation/media room, a mirrored gym, and an upstairs lounge complete the interior offerings. The primary bedroom boasts a private balcony, dual walk-in closets, and a luxurious marble-clad bath featuring a spa tub and a curbless shower.

Outside, the meticulously landscaped grounds feature a mix of natural and synthetic grass lawns, specimen trees, gardens, and fountains, along with an arbor-covered media lounge. Additionally, the property includes a one-bedroom guesthouse with its own kitchen and living area, as well as an office/studio with a kitchenette and full bath. A three-car garage with a converted fourth bay serving as an office and catering space completes the amenities.

In addition to his Malibu and Atherton properties, Andreessen reportedly owns a vacant lot valued at $36 million just outside Las Vegas, further solidifying his substantial real estate holdings.
