The $45M South Florida Mansion

A longtime friend of Oscar-winning architect Frank Gehry owns this South Florida mansion in an exclusive enclave of a very wealthy family.

There are a few options available to you if you’re interested in installing a Zaha Hadid-designed bathroom in your home. Depending on your needs, you might want to consider buying a condo or renting an apartment in one of her residential building projects, or perhaps you might want to wait until a single-family residence that she designed goes on the market. There is also the option to put in an offer for Craig Robins and Jackie Soffer’s Miami beachfront mansion, which recently went on the market for $45 million, according to Rich Report, which just hit the market.

As part of his longtime friendship and collaboration with Robins, the late architect designed the primary bathroom of their 9,000-square-foot Spanish-style home. This home in South Florida is located on Sunset Island, which is an enclave of four private artificial islands. Besides the seven bedrooms, the home also includes a gym, a library, a formal dining room, a chef’s kitchen, a detached guesthouse, and, of course, the Zaha Hadid-designed bathroom.

“I once walked in on Martha Stewart doing an impromptu shoot with photographer Todd Eberle in the bathroom,” Robins said. “To be fair to Martha, I think she asked for permission at some point in the night, and as far as party antics go, it’s less naughty than what a lot of people get up to in Miami bathrooms.” It’s no surprise that this space would make a great Instagram backdrop thanks to its minimalist white walls and sleek curves.

In order to display their impressive collection of art throughout many of the rooms in their home, the couple chose white walls.

During a 2016 renovation of the property following his marriage to Soffer in 2015, Robins added about 2,500 square feet of space to it as part of his purchase of the property in 1997 for “.325 million. The couple had been considering a few different bathtubs for their primary bath around this time, and Soffer had been showing Hadid potential bathtubs they might consider.

Hadid was not moved by the pair’s choices and called them back the next day, saying she didn’t like any of the options they had presented and that she would design the space herself if they wished. “It was the nicest thing that probably any friend has ever done for me,” Robins explained. With its curved lines, this bathroom is a classic Hadid design, both in terms of its stark white color scheme and in terms of the seamless integration of the tub and shower.

In order to downsize and sell the expansive property, which dates back to the 1940s, the couple, now empty nesters, made the decision to downsize and sell it. Currently, Jill Hertzberg and Jill Eber of the Jills Zeder Group are the only agents who are handling the listing.
