Mookie Bett’s $15 Million Estate in the L.A. Hills

Mookie Betts has once again stepped up to the plate in Los Angeles, scoring a legendary real estate deal with a $15 million purchase of an expansive estate nestled in the hills of Encino, overlooking the San Fernando Valley. This transaction ranks among the largest ever recorded in Encino, a suburb that has transformed from a quiet Southern California neighborhood to a bustling hub of affluence, attracting celebrities ranging from Oscar-nominated actors and renowned musicians to YouTubers and Real Housewives. Notably, it stands out as one of the most significant area deals for a non-new construction home, originally built in 1986 as a Mediterranean villa-style mansion.

The property came into the hands of local developer Jeff Huberts and his team at Sandlot Homes last year for approximately .8 million. Subsequently, the entire 9,300-square-foot structure underwent a comprehensive and contemporary remodel. Despite not being publicly listed and still undergoing final construction stages, details about the property have surfaced through tax records and Los Angeles permit archives. The residence boasts eight bedrooms, 10.5 bathrooms, a three-car garage, and occupies a tri-level structure that commands impressive views of the valley from its elevated position in the hills, situated near the terminus of a secluded cul-de-sac.

Ensconced behind gates and a lengthy driveway, the luxurious estate sits on approximately 2.2 acres of land, although a substantial portion of it is steeply sloped and, therefore, not usable. The grounds feature a recently renovated rectangular swimming pool, an outdoor spa, and a full-size tennis court. At the property’s entrance, adjacent to the driveway gate, there is even a guard shack, indicating the potential presence of a full-time armed bodyguard. Unfortunately, details regarding the interior amenities of the main mansion remain undisclosed.

While Betts is no stranger to the Encino area, still retaining ownership of a slightly smaller property elsewhere in the vicinity, he put it on the market nearly a year ago for $10 million. This initial residence, characterized as a “starter” estate, is yet to be sold, with the price recently reduced to .5 million. Betts acquired the property in the fall of 2020 for .6 million from UCLA Bruins head coach Chip Kelly. Notably, he has added personalized upgrades, including an indoor basketball court featuring “MB” initials, befitting his status as a six-time Gold Glove winner.

Originally hailing from Nashville, Betts is rumored to be a distant cousin of Meghan Markle. Since signing a $365 million contract extension with the Dodgers in the summer of 2020, the 31-year-old and his wife, Brianna Hammonds, have primarily resided in Los Angeles. The recent real estate move reflects Betts’ continued investment in the city’s property landscape.
