Michael Jordan’s House Still on the Market After 12 Years

In the Netflix/ESPN collaborative documentary, “The Last Dance,” which delves into the Chicago Bulls’ dynasty during the 1997-98 championship season, there were numerous memorable moments. Despite fans speculating that glimpses of Michael Jordan’s house were featured in the documentary, it turns out that the basketball legend, known for his privacy, did not allow the filming crew or the audience into his personal residence. Instead, he opted to conduct his interviews in three distinct and luxurious locations.

However, for those who marveled at the opulent houses showcased in the documentary, assuming they were part of Jordan’s actual residence, the truth is that his real home is even more impressive. Notably, Michael Jordan’s house, located outside of Chicago, has been on the market for over a decade, with Katherine Malkin of Compass overseeing the listing.

Acquired in 1991 after Jordan’s first NBA championship victory with the Chicago Bulls, the house, along with its 7-acre property, has been his residence. Originally purchased for ” million, Jordan and his then-wife, Juanita Vanoy, invested heavily in customizing the 9-bedroom home, featuring unique elements such as a pool anchored by a grass island.

Following Jordan’s divorce from Vanoy, he decided to sell the two-story home, initially listing it in 2012 with a staggering $29 million asking price. However, the property failed to attract buyers, leading to subsequent price adjustments. The listing, marked by the numbers 1 4, 8 5 5, 0 0 0, totaling 23, Jordan’s basketball jersey number, remained at $14.8 million since 2015.

Michael Jordan’s mansion, encompassing 56,000 square feet, was custom-built during the peak of his career, undergoing extensive renovations in 1995 and 2009. It boasts nine bedrooms, 14 parking spaces, and distinctive features, including a door from the original Playboy mansion. The property includes a regulation-sized basketball gym, a circular infinity pool, putting green, tennis court, cigar room, and a three-bedroom guesthouse.

While the house is a significant part of basketball history, serving as the location for Jordan’s renowned Breakfast Club pre-practice routine, it has lingered on the market for an extended period. Several factors contribute to the prolonged sale, including the high price point, customization that may not align with potential buyers’ preferences, and the inherent challenges of selling million-dollar homes.

Despite the extended time on the market, Michael Jordan’s financial standing, with an estimated net worth of $3 billion, affords him the luxury of holding firm on the property’s value. Furthermore, Jordan owns various residences across the U.S., including homes in North Carolina, Utah, and Florida, where he currently resides in a lavish 28,000-square-foot mansion in Jupiter within The Bear Club, a prestigious golfing community. This Florida property, completed in 2013, features 11 bedrooms, a 2-story guard house, a guest house, a pool house, an athletic wing with a basketball court, and a workout facility.
