Tom Ford’s Hamptons Summer Home

Fashion icon Tom Ford has acquired Lasata, the Hamptons estate where Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis cherished her childhood summers, in a notable deal amounting to $52 million, as reported by the Wall Street Journal. This purchase materialized less than a year after Estée Lauder’s substantial $2.8 billion acquisition of Tom Ford’s fashion label.

The renowned designer has recently demonstrated an affinity for real estate investments, adding to his portfolio with acquisitions like a modern Palm Beach mansion, acquired for $51 million in December 2022. Ford later exchanged this property for an even more expansive 1930s residence in the same area, owned by private equity CEO Brian Kosoy, in an off-market transaction, according to the Real Deal.

Situated in East Hampton, New York, Lasata, translating to “place of peace” in the Algonquin language, was originally constructed in 1917 in the Arts and Crafts style for George Wellington Schurman, a Manhattan lawyer. In 1925, the estate changed hands to John Vernou Bouvier Jr., a lawyer and grandfather to Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Little Edie Beale, and Lee Radziwill. Young Onassis and her six siblings frequented the grand 10-bedroom residence during summers, where they learned to ride horses and likely explored the property’s expansive orchards. Encompassing approximately seven acres, the estate includes a two-bedroom guesthouse, a caretaker’s cottage, a pool house, and a three-car garage.

In 2007, fashion designer Reed Krakoff and interior designer Delphine Krakoff acquired the impressive 10-bedroom home for $20 million. Producer David Zander later purchased the property in 2018 for $24 million, engaging ELLE DECOR A-list designer Pierre Yovanovitch for interior redesigns and landscape architect Louis Benech for garden and landscaping enhancements. Notably, a team of Parisian painters was flown in to impart a distinctive cottony stroke to the home’s walls, as per the Wall Street Journal. Tom Ford, recognized for his penchant for stylish properties, including those designed by acclaimed architects such as Tadao Ando and Richard Neutra, secured the picturesque abode for more than double the amount Zander paid.

Eileen O’Neill of the Corcoran Group, along with Ed Petrie, James Petrie, and Charles Forsman of Compass, oversees the property listing. Frank E. Newbold of Sotheby’s International Realty represented Tom Ford in this significant acquisition.
