Taylor Swift’s Cornelia Street Townhouse for $17.9 Million

Taylor Swift’s connection to Cornelia Street may be fading as her former Manhattan residence, a charming 5,500-square-foot West Village carriage house located at 23 Cornelia Street, hits the market with a staggering price tag of $17.9 million. Swift leased this picturesque townhouse for a few months in 2016, seeking refuge during renovations on her $50 million TriBeCa loft. The property is now available for potential buyers to make it their own.

During her temporary stay, Swift paid $38,000 per month in 2016 and 2017 to experience the historic charm of the townhouse, which became the muse for her widely popular song “Cornelia Street.” The lyrics of the song are often interpreted as a love ballad to her then-beau Joe Alwyn. At that time, the townhouse was under the ownership of David Aldea, an executive at Soho House. However, in 2019, an Italian investor acquired the property for .5 million, as recorded in city documents. Subsequently, the house underwent a transformation into a showroom for the renowned Italian furniture company Zanotta. Last fall, it was listed for rent at $45,000 per month, an option that is still available along with the option to purchase.

Originally constructed in 1870 to store horse-drawn carriages, the townhouse boasts four bedrooms, five bathrooms, two powder rooms, an eat-in kitchen, and various terraces, including a rooftop lounge. Uncommon for New York City, the property features an indoor lap pool and a garage. The second floor exudes a timeless charm with beamed ceilings, blond parquet Russian Ipe wood floors, leaded-glass windows, and a wood-burning fireplace. The listing is managed by Laurence Carty, Irene Lo, and Jennifer Rahilly of the Corcoran Group.

Although Cornelia Street has held a special place in Swift’s heart, as evidenced by the inspiration for her song, her real estate ventures extend far beyond. According to the Wall Street Journal, Swift maintains a real estate portfolio exceeding 0 million, including residences in TriBeCa, Beverly Hills, Nashville, and Rhode Island. Even as she embarks on her Eras Tour, captivating audiences nationwide through the summer, Swift’s influence on Cornelia Street remains an enduring part of her journey, leaving a legacy in the heart of New York City’s real estate.
