Kelly Slater’s $20 Million Hawaiian Hideaway

Ever dreamt of living like a surfing icon, perhaps a professional wave rider with a trove of accolades tucked beneath the surfboard? Well, seize the opportunity, as the idyllic Hawaiian retreat owned by Kelly Slater for the past several years has hit the market on Oahu’s serene north shore, according to The Wall Street Journal’s initial report.

Priced at an impressive $20 million, the listing represents a substantial increase from the $11 million the 11-time champion paid for the beachside estate seven years ago, back in the spring of 2017. Primarily acquired for personal reasons—Slater holds fond memories of crashing at a nearby house with his teenage surfing buddies in the 1980s—the property has been intermittently available for rent, fetching as much as $80,000 per month.

Nestled within a gated expanse spanning just over half an acre, along one of Haleiwa’s most coveted streets, the compound, constructed in the early 2000s, comprises a main residence and two guesthouses, offering a total of six bedrooms and eight bathrooms across approximately 7,600 square feet of living space infused with Asian and Hawaiian influences, all with access to 101 feet of secluded shoreline.

Although interior glimpses are sparse, prior listings reveal the primary dwelling boasts a soaring living room adorned with an open-trussed ceiling, a gracefully curved hardwood staircase tucked away, and glass doors leading to a sheltered lanai. Notable features include a formal dining room, media room, and a kitchen outfitted with natural wood cabinetry and an expansive island. Among the two bedrooms is an upper-level primary suite, featuring an ocean-view balcony, a cozy seating nook, a walk-in closet, and a bath complete with dual vanities and a luxurious soaking tub.

Outside, the verdant grounds host a boardwalk traversing a tranquil pond, alongside an infinity pool and hot tub bordered by lush lawns. Completing the ensemble are the aforementioned auxiliary dwellings, comprising a three-bedroom guesthouse with its own kitchen and living area, as well as a one-bedroom apartment perched atop the detached three-car garage. Additionally, the property reportedly includes an array of Polynesian artworks left behind by a previous owner.

The 52-year-old Florida native, who hinted to WSJ that he may be concluding his final year as a professional surfer, also oversees various business ventures, ranging from a private surfing ranch to a sustainable footwear brand, with plans underway for a forthcoming skincare and sunblock line. Besides the featured compound, Slater and his longtime partner Kalani Miller also maintain a primary residence—a “small beach shack”—nestled along Hawaii’s Banzai Pipeline reef break, in addition to properties in Florida, California, and Australia.
