Former Blackstone Group CIO Lists Mansion for $47.5M

This recently listed French-style mansion, situated in Greenwich, Connecticut, exudes a strong European charm. Its owner, James Mossman, who formerly held the position of Chief Investment Officer at Blackstone Group, has decided to sell the property after owning it for 15 years. The asking price for this grand 11,300-square-foot residence stands at an impressive $47.5 million, making it one of the most expensive properties currently on the market in Fairfield County. Mossman purchased the waterfront property in 2012 and entrusted architect Mark Finlay and builder Hobbs, Inc. to construct the magnificent six-bedroom, seven-bathroom mansion, a project that spanned three years.

According to records, replicating this home today would likely cost more than its current asking price, especially considering the challenge of finding a suitable elevated waterfront site, as noted by listing agent Joseph Barbieri of Sotheby’s International Realty in The Wall Street Journal.

Sitting on a vast two-acre plot within the highly sought-after gated community of Mead Point in Greenwich, this luxurious estate boasts a charming stone exterior adorned with blue shutters. The stately Colonial-style residence offers breathtaking views of the Long Island Sound, a dazzling 72-foot infinity pool with a pool house, meticulously landscaped formal gardens, and a private boat dock.

Mossman enlisted the expertise of G2 Design to deck out the interior with top-tier finishes and fixtures. For instance, the game room features steel wall coverings, tatami mat ceilings, and plush suede elements. In another part of the mansion, a paneled library is graced with an intricate plaster tracery ceiling and antique Tibetan doors that lead to a private office. Additionally, there is a guest bedroom equipped with a Japanese soaking tub and tasteful grass-cloth wall coverings.

This sizable residence comes with a wide array of amenities, including a glass conservatory filled with tropical plants, a fully-equipped gym, a wine cellar, and even a dedicated gift-wrapping room. While Mossman’s previous Greenwich estate had its own hockey rink, this property tops it off with a rooftop hot tub, which is likely to see more frequent use.
