Gem-setting techniques are out-of-this-world on the new RM 07-01 Intergalactic models.
The brand was founded in 2001 and has been known for its avant-garde designs. With its RM 07-01 watch line, which combines advanced techniques, like innovative gem setting techniques, with the brand’s signature approach to watchmaking, the brand has set the bar for complicated ladies’ watches in recent years. RM 07-01 Intergalactic is one of the brand’s latest additions to the ladies’ collection that builds on this tradition.
Carbon TPT is an exclusive material with a velvety matte appearance that redefines the brand’s approach to gem setting once again with this set of four new models. As a result, this collection of diamonds and materials perfectly complements each other, highlighting their respective properties as well as the relationship between light and darkness. However, creating such an effect is not an easy task. A diamond-bit milling tool is required to machine carbon TPT settings, unlike gold, which allows the craftsman to shape the prongs to secure diamonds. This carbon composite exemplifies Richard Mille’s expertise in working with it, which has become a trademark material.
There are four different iterations of the Intergalactic lineup, each reflecting a different condition of the night sky, with the Dark Night, Starry Night, Bright Night and Misty Night reflecting various conditions in the cosmos themselves. A distinct gem setting pattern is featured in each version, incorporating anywhere from 51 to 251 diamonds. As Richard Mille’s creative and development director, Cécile Guenat explains, the idea of an explosion of stars in the black darkness led to the idea. In order to bring the elements together in an intense way, we rethought our approach to gem setting.
In spite of the fact that the diamond arrangement varies from model to model, all RM 07-01 Intergalactic models are equipped with the brand’s CRMA2 caliber. Featuring hours, minutes, and a variable geometry rotor that optimizes winding motion based on wearer activity, this skeletonized automatic movement is constructed of grade 5 titanium.
