Pro Golfer Scottie Scheffler Wearing Rolex Submariner ‘Hulk’

Scottie Scheffler had golfers everywhere green with envy over the weekend. The 27-year-old American clinched his second Masters Tournament victory in three years on Sunday, donning not only the prestigious green jacket but also a matching green Rolex on his wrist.

Scheffler sported the Rolex Submariner (Ref. 116610LV), affectionately known as the “Hulk.” Released in 2010, this model features a distinctive green Cerachrom bezel and a green sunray dial encased in a robust 40 mm “Super” case. The “Hulk” was discontinued in 2020 when Rolex introduced larger models with new color variations. Due to its discontinuation, the Hulk now fetches around $20,000 on the secondary market, while the current standard-issue Submariner is priced at $10,800.

Green has always been a favored accent color for the Submariner. Before the Hulk, there was the “Kermit” (Ref. 16610LV), launched in 2003. This model features a black dial and a green aluminum bezel, earning its nickname from the Muppet character. The modern Submariner Date (Ref. 122610LV), dubbed the “Starbucks” by collectors, also has a green Cerachrom bezel paired with a black dial, similar to the Kermit. However, the Starbucks boasts a 41 mm Oystersteel case, slimmer lugs, a wider bracelet, and the new caliber 3235 movement for improved energy efficiency. Both the Hulk and the Kermit are powered by the caliber 3135 automatic movement.

Scheffler’s choice of the all-green Hulk over the partially green Kermit or Starbucks showcased his attention to color coordination, though it wasn’t entirely unexpected. As a Rolex “Testimonee” (ambassador), Scheffler has access to an array of the Swiss watchmaker’s models. For instance, he wore a Rolex GMT Master II “Root Beer” when he won his first Masters in 2022.

Scheffler’s four-shot victory on Sunday was as predictable as his watch selection. He is currently the world’s top golfer by a significant margin and has secured three major wins—Bay Hill, the Players Championship, and the Masters—in his last four starts. He is the fourth-youngest player to win two green jackets and one of fewer than 20 golfers to have won the Masters twice. His victory also came with a substantial $3.6 million share of the $20 million Masters purse.

With such substantial earnings, Scheffler might soon upgrade his collection and sport the new solid-gold Deepsea. Stay tuned.
