Martin Short’s Secluded L.A. Home

Adding to his Los Angeles property holdings, Martin Short, the celebrated actor, comedian, and writer renowned for his contributions to SCTV, Saturday Night Live, and Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building,” has acquired another residence. Records indicate that Short, who already owns a home in Los Angeles, recently purchased a renovated property in Brentwood’s Upper Mandeville Canyon neighborhood for $2.2 million. Originally listed for approximately $2.4 million in March, Short managed to secure a slight discount on the purchase.

Constructed in the early 1960s and recently updated with contemporary touches, the pristine white residence is situated on nearly three-quarters of an acre of lush land. Accessed via a bridge and shared driveway leading to an attached two-car garage, as well as a set of stairs leading to a charming porch and the double entry doors, the home encompasses four bedrooms and three bathrooms within just over 1,800 square feet of split-level living space. Throughout the interior, hardwood floors and wood-beam ceilings exude warmth, while sliding glass doors connect the living areas to various outdoor lounging and entertaining spaces.

While photos of the property are limited, online listings reveal a living room centered around a corner fireplace with a marble surround, as well as a generously sized dining room or workspace adjacent to a kitchen equipped with modern stainless steel appliances. A hallway leads to the bedrooms, including a primary suite featuring a private balcony and a spa-like ensuite bathroom.

Outside, the private backyard boasts a seating bar, a fire pit area, and a seasonal waterfall, along with a freeform swimming pool and spa surrounded by a grassy sun deck. Additionally, there is a detached studio apartment complete with its own kitchenette and bathroom.

Originally from Canada, the 74-year-old actor gained prominence for his sketch comedy, creating memorable characters like Jiminy Glick and Ed Grimley. Short has appeared in numerous films and TV series, including “Three Amigos!,” “Innerspace,” “Father of the Bride,” and “The Morning Show.” His theatrical talents have also been showcased in Broadway productions such as “The Goodbye Girl” and “Little Me,” the latter of which earned him a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Musical. In addition to his recent acquisition, Short has owned a primary residence in Pacific Palisades since 1987, which he purchased for $1.3 million.

The property was listed by Robin Walpert of Sotheby’s International Realty/Pacific Palisades Brokerage, while Max Marguleas and Anthony Marguleas of Amalfi Estates represented the buyer.
