Every year, the winner of Worlds receives the Summoner’s Cup.
During the past two centuries, Tiffany & Co. has created timeless trophies for football, basketball, tennis, baseball and more. It is now taking on esports as well.
A new version of the Summoner’s Cup, which is presented annually to the League of Legends World Championship winner, was recently unveiled by the storied American jeweler. Tiffany and LoL Esports collaborated on the modern redesign. It took four months (or approximately 277 hours) of meticulous work to complete.
With a weight of 44 pounds and an approximate height of 27 inches, Tiffany’s Cup is considered the crown jewel of esports. This trophy is made at Tiffany’s hollowware workshop in Cumberland, Rhode Island, where more than 65 trophies are produced each year. In order to create the sterling-silver masterpiece, the house’s expert artisans paired age-old tools and techniques from the mid-19th century with the latest innovations.
With its sleek, angular silhouette, the cup is loaded with the logos for LoL’s five positions, as well as names of recent champions engraved on its base.
“The Summoner’s Cup is a symbol of greatness in esports and the crowning achievement in League of Legends,” said Riot Games global head of esports Naz Aletaha. “The teams who hoist it represent the best of our sport—their mastery forever a part of LoL Esports’ history.”
As the pinnacle of League of Legends competition, the World Championship returns to North America this September after a two-year hiatus in 2016. The tournament sees 24 teams from 12 different regions compete for the title of world champion. In fact, the 2021 finals attracted over 73 million peak concurrent viewers, the highest audience ever. Worlds continues to achieve record audience numbers year after year.
The Summoner’s Cup competition will get underway on September 29 in Mexico City, followed by the finals on November 5 in San Francisco.
