New $180,000 Ceramic Ladies’ Watch From Richard Mille

Combining traditional watchmaking techniques with modern technology, the RM-037 is a watch unlike any other.

In addition to its tonneau-shaped case, a blend of futuristic materials, including high-tech ceramic, and skeletonized automatic in-house movement, the latest model from avant-garde watchmaker Richard Mille fits all the signature elements the brand is known for: a tonneau-shaped case, a blend of futuristic materials, including high-tech ceramic. RM models are usually geared toward men, but this one is made for women.

First, let’s examine the white ceramic case of the RM-037. In addition to being hypoallergenic and exceptionally hard, Alumina Toughened Zirconia (ATZ) ceramic also boasts exceptional scratch, shock, and abrasion resistance, which means it is not just any ceramic, but a high-tech composite known as Alumina Toughened Zirconia (ATZ). By injecting aluminum oxide powder tubes at 2,000 bar pressure, the material is formed with enhanced rigidity and minimal porosity, and it will stay blindingly white for years to come.‍

A mother-of-pearl dial with diamonds and mother-of-pearl embellishments adds an elegant touch to an otherwise sporty watch with two push buttons in polished white gold. However, it may find it hard to compete with November’s gem-set, 1970s-inspired RM 71-02 Automatic Tourbillon Talisman timepiece. Swiss take on Studio 54, this collection pays tribute to the disco era with facets like tsavorites, spessartites, amethysts, diamonds, spinel, rubies and sapphires, as well as dials with geometric-cut hard stones like malachite, lapis lazuli, sugilite and pink opal.

With the sapphire glass, you can see the red gold variable-geometry rotor of the model’s in-house automatic-winding movement, the Richard Mille CRMA1 caliber. Black PVD-treated grade 5 titanium is used for the baseplate and bridges.‍

At 12 o’clock, the RM-037 features a large date display and a 4-o’clock function selector that allows you to wind the movement or set the time.

A retail price of $180,000 is set for the model, which is only available through Richard Mille boutiques worldwide.
