Jacob & Co. Watch With Graffiti Artist Alec Monopoly

A very popular board game and pop art characters are featured on this watch.

There is no doubt that Jacob & Co. isn’t known for being subtle. Therefore, it shouldn’t be surprising that its latest high-end watch pays homage to one of the most popular board games in history.

Known for his graphic take-offs of the board game in his nom de plume, Alec Monopoly, the New York-based jeweler released a timepiece this week in collaboration with the graffiti artist. Astronomia Alec Monopoly features brightly coloured representations of Mr. Monopoly incarnated as other pop culture icons set against a black dial decorated to resemble a starry night sky.

There are four windows on the side of the 18-karat gold case, giving you a full view of the artistry inside. The case is encased in a sapphire crystal dome, allowing you to admire the watch from all angles.‍

Astronomia watches feature four-arm vertical movements with tourbillon complications, like other pieces. A hand-lacquered magnesium globe rotates every 60 seconds on one arm; opposite this, there’s a 1 carat diamond with a Jacob cut spherical symmetry that spins with the same speed. On the opposite side of the time display is a double-axis tourbillon. In the background, a manual winding JCAM10 with a 60-hour power reserve drives the watch.

Each character was drawn by the artist, which was then converted into CAD renderings to fit inside the watch’s case without disrupting its Astronomia movement. In the following stages, the characters were hand-sculpted, cast in gold, and finished by hand.

The jeweler’s website contains more details about the watch, including its price of $600,000.
