The Ferrari 296 GT3, a motorsport-focused variant of the 296 GTB, has been meticulously recreated by Amalgam Collection in a 1:8 scale model, providing enthusiasts with a highly detailed miniature version of the racing car. Stripped of its hybrid power-train components, the GT3 variant boasts downforce-intensive aerodynamics and purpose-built hardware, making it an ideal choice for both amateur and professional racers looking to experience the fierce capabilities of Maranello’s 296 in a competitive setting.
Priced at approximately $600,000, the Ferrari 296 GT3 race car is a significant investment. However, for those who prefer a scaled-down reminder of their real-life track companion or simply want an exquisite collector’s item, Amalgam Collection’s 1:8 scale model offers a compelling alternative. The Bristol-based firm, known for producing intricate models, has spared no effort in replicating the GT3 with exceptional attention to detail, making it a near-perfect miniature version of the actual vehicle.
The production process for the 296 GT3 model involved approximately 3,300 hours of design and development, including tasks such as 3D printing, hand-working hundreds of patterns, and creating molds for the prototyping phase. Each 22-inch long model undergoes around 350 hours of meticulous work, encompassing fettling, fitting, and painting. The end result is a faithful replica that appears like a shrunken version of the original race car.
In collaboration with Ferrari, Amalgam received the car’s original CAD data, paint codes, and material specifications, ensuring accuracy in the reproduction process. The model captures the GT3’s convincing stance with accurately cambered, Pirelli P Zero–branded rubber. Every intricate detail, from the Stäubli fuel-filler cap to the magnesium gearbox case and the 2.9-liter V-6 engine in Ferrari’s signature red hue, is faithfully recreated.
The model’s attention to detail extends to its functional aspects, such as a lightweight door that swings open to reveal a purposeful cockpit. The cockpit features a manettino-equipped steering wheel, a Bosch-branded monitor, a button-clad control console, and individually stitched racing harnesses. The meticulously finished parts include photo-etchings and CNC-formed metal components, enhancing the overall authenticity of the model.
Sandy Copeman, Amalgam’s founder and director of brand and business development, emphasized the logical decision to create a deeply detailed 1:8 model of the Ferrari 296 GT3. The car’s combination of beautiful lines, intricate devices, and details reminiscent of a high-end watch inspired the creation of a model that has received admiration from those who have seen it.
Limited to 199 pieces, the standard Rosso Corso livery of Amalgam’s Ferrari 296 GT3 model is priced at $18,090. For enthusiasts seeking a more personalized touch, a bespoke configuration option is available, allowing customization of everything from paint finish to interior details, albeit at a cost of $23,520.
