Introducing McLaren Artura Spider, a Hybrid Super Convertible

McLaren has provided a sneak peek at the Artura Spider, its inaugural high-performance hybrid convertible, alongside an updated coupe, presenting substantial improvements over the original Artura launched in 2022.

The latest iteration boasts increased power and heightened driver engagement, delivering a combined 700 hp. Engineers at McLaren extracted an additional 20 hp from the existing 3.0-liter V6 and E-motor powertrain. The automatic eight-speed gearbox underwent optimization, resulting in shift speeds 25% faster than the original. The Artura Spider also caters to eco-conscious drivers, offering an electric vehicle (EV) mode capable of covering 21 miles.

A notable feature is the Spider’s weight, making it the lightest convertible supercar in its class, with a dry lightest weight of merely 3,212 lbs. This weight increase, a mere 137 lbs more than the Artura coupe, primarily stems from the roof and its mechanisms. Impressively, the Artura Spider’s hardtop roof unfolds or folds in just 11 seconds at speeds of up to 31 mph.

Despite the modest weight gain, overall performance remains consistent. Both the Spider and the coupe boast a 0-60 mph time of 3.0 seconds and a top speed of 205 mph.

The Artura Spider introduces Launch Control as a standard feature, along with a novel ‘Spinning Wheel Pull-Away,’ triggering pronounced wheelspin from a stationary position. These features not only turn heads but also contribute to Pirelli’s revenue with the necessity for a new set of P Zero tires.

Michael Leiters, CEO of McLaren Automotive, stated, “The new Artura is absolutely the complete next-generation supercar, whichever model you choose. We have upgraded the powertrain and the chassis systems to deliver more power, more dynamic performance, and even higher levels of connection with the driver – without any compromise in everyday driving.”
