Earthcruiser and GMC’s Hummer EV

In March, an official collaboration was unveiled between GMC and EarthCruiser Overland Vehicles, headquartered in Oregon. The joint initiative outlined plans for the development of an overlanding variant of the Hummer EV pickup. At the initial announcement, a teaser image with obscured details was released, showcasing solar panels positioned atop a GMC Hummer body. Anticipated for its grand reveal this month, GMC has recently disclosed a second teaser image, providing a considerably more comprehensive view from the side. This latest preview offers a closer examination of the overlanding package, unveiling a host of intriguing features.

Of notable interest, the overlanding iteration of the Hummer EV pickup prominently features an extended shell that extends forward to encompass the cab area. In the digital rendering, it becomes evident that this shell is seamlessly integrated with a roof-mounted pop-up tent.

It is worth mentioning that this overland configuration is expected to augment the overall weight of the vehicle, which is already substantial, weighing in at 9640 pounds. Consequently, there exists the potential for a discernible impact on the vehicle’s overall range, an attribute of particular significance in an electric vehicle context. GMC has previously stated that the standard Hummer EV offers a range of 329 miles on a single charge. More precise details concerning the effects of this overlanding package on range are expected to be elucidated when the concept is officially unveiled later this month.

Enthusiasts and interested parties may have the opportunity to witness the concept firsthand at the upcoming Overland Expo Mountain West event in Colorado, commencing on August 25. Both GMC and EarthCruiser have affirmed their commitment to making this up-fit available to customers in early 2024.
