A $5.2 Million Bugatti W16 Mistral Hypercar

Supercars are a big part of Dubai, as evidenced by W16 Mistral’s presence there.

Dubai’s presence of the Bugatti W16 Mistral underscores the brand’s importance to the region

It is a significant part of Bugatti’s history as the last road-going appearance of the W16 engine that defines every Bugatti since 2005’s Veyron.

A Bugatti UAE showroom, operated by Al Habtoor Motors, also displays the W16 Mistral, illustrating the importance of the region. Al Habtoor Motors sells and maintains these cars on behalf of Bugatti.

Bugatti’s Regional Director, Middle East and Asia, Kostas Psarris, said: “The Arabian Peninsula is one of Bugatti’s key sales markets, accounting for around a quarter of all orders received for Chiron. The UAE also has the largest fleet of Bugatti Veyron in the world, with over 50 vehicles in the country. The enthusiasm for the hyper sports cars of Molsheim in the Middle East, including for our ultimate roadster, W16 Mistral, is extraordinary.”

The aerodynamics and thermodynamics of Bugatti’s fastest roadster are expertly balanced to achieve incomparable speeds while maintaining a beautiful and timeless design.

A three-dimensional surface on the headlights, for example, helps channel air through the light and out of the wheel arch to reduce aerodynamic drag. It is the product of a philosophy known within Bugatti as ‘form follows performance’.

This open top car offers performance that is unparalleled by any open top car in history thanks to its 1,600 PS version of the W16 engine. It is fully bespoke in its design and engineering; the existing monocoque isn’t simply cut off above the A-pillars to accommodate the new open-top design, but has been reengineered and reshaped to produce a more rounded silhouette without compromising performance.

The entire production run of the W16 Mistral has already been sold out, and only 99 examples will be built, priced at 5 million euros net ($5.16 million).

An achievement of design and engineering symbiosis, the W16 Mistral is the most extreme roadster in Bugatti history, the last roadgoing appearance of the iconic W16 engine.

Designed to evoke the elegance and adventure of Bugatti’s Type 57 Grand Raid Usine, the W16 Mistral is designed with adventure in mind. Taking its name from the French term for a rally through an inhospitable terrain, the Grand Raid conjures up images of victory and exploration

Bugatti’s famous horseshoe grille has been expanded, deepened, and made more three-dimensional at the front of the W16 Mistral, so the engine radiator can be fully supplied with air purely from one intake, allowing the side intakes to provide only air to the intercoolers.‍

For the W16 Mistral, the X-shaped taillights are elegant and striking, while serving an additional purpose, improving the cooling circuit.‍

A new three-dimensional headlamp design seamlessly integrates two intakes around the front corners to manage airflow. Air is ushered from a high pressure area to a low pressure area in the wheel well, preventing turbulence and drag that would affect the performance of the Mistral.‍

While still inspiring a high level of driver confidence, the W16 Mistral can reach 420 km/h in ‘Top Speed’ mode.

With its vertical front lines, the Roadster adds a refined elegance to its superb looks, as well as reducing aerodynamic drag by being three-dimensional.

Through its carefully designed front splitter, aerodynamic underbody, and high energy airflow around the airfoil-shaped rear wing, the W16 Mistral achieves a delicate balance between drag reduction and downforce.‍
