Following his time as co-creator of Facebook’s heavily scrutinized (and now defunct) Diem digital currency project, David Marcus departed Facebook’s parent company Meta at the end of last year after seven years in various executive roles. Prior to joining Facebook, Marcus was PayPal’s president; he joined Facebook as head of its Messaging app before transitioning to crypto initiatives.
A gated lot that spans more than two-thirds of an acre, the Marcus mansion lies at the end of a particularly swanky cul-de-sac, where residents employ a 24-hour guard service. This 12,700-square-foot building includes a gym, a wine room with temperature control, a wellness center, and a swimming pool that overlooks Bel Air Country Club.
The estate seems to have a strong theme of water — the swimming pool and spa are connected by a step-stone “water courtyard,” and there’s a waterfall flowing into a peaceful reflecting pool outside the front door. The property’s hillside perch offers views of the Pacific Ocean on a clear day.
Additionally, there is a limestone façade, a three-car garage, covered parking for four additional vehicles, mature olive trees, and an outdoor fireplace lounge. A palatial primary suite consists of two stone bathrooms and a boutique-sized closet. Oak details enhance the white walls of the interior spaces, which may otherwise appear sterile.
Marcus continues to maintain a home base in Silicon Valley. He sold a posh Atherton mansion for .5 million last year and upgraded to a $22.2 million estate just a few blocks away last year.
