Bonkers Supersonic Jet that can fly Could Fly at up to 1,141 MPH

Oscar Viñals from OVI’s Design envisions transforming a sci-fi fantasy aircraft into a tangible reality. The Barcelona-based designer, renowned for crafting disruptive concepts, has recently introduced an extraordinary new supersonic plane that epitomizes the future of aviation.

The Sky OV concept represents the forefront of aeronautical design, featuring cutting-edge technologies that enhance speed, efficiency, and sustainability. Resembling the sleek arrow-shaped profile of a fighter jet, the aircraft boasts four aerodynamic wings facilitating smooth navigation through the skies. Additionally, the wings can be folded when not in use, optimizing hangar space.

Equipped with bladeless turbojet engines inspired by Dyson’s motor for the all-electric Airbus A320E, the Sky OV utilizes the British company’s “Fluidic Propulsion Air Multiplier” (FPAM) system. This system accelerates a continuous air stream without exposed blades. The Sky OV engines, based on pulse detonation, employ controlled explosions to generate thrust. Viñals asserts that detonation engines exhibit superior efficiency compared to traditional jet engines at high speeds, capable of propelling an aircraft to four or five times the speed of sound. Notably, the Sky OV is anticipated to achieve a cruising speed of 913 mph (Mach 1.2) and a maximum speed of 1,141 mph (Mach 1.5).
