Icon Yachts has introduced its latest expedition yacht concept, “Mission,” which is designed for individuals with substantial resources and a mission at hand. Revealed at the Monaco Yacht Show, this 210-foot vessel, designed by Bernd Weel Design, exudes a rugged aesthetic similar to the Sailing Yacht A owned by Andrew Melchinco. Mission features a versatile and modular design, accommodating numerous tenders, RIBs, a three-passenger submersible, and even an Airbus H130 helicopter. With room for 12 guests in six luxurious cabins and a crew of 18, this yacht is built for global exploration, including polar regions during non-ice conditions. It boasts ample helicopter landing facilities and expedition equipment.
Bernd Weel stated, “The project embodies an ‘experience-focused’ design, meaning the vessel is designed to facilitate specialized expeditions, exploration, and yacht cruises. Mission incorporates all the amenities and functionalities on board to create experiences and lasting memories.” He highlights the vessel’s versatility, allowing it to adapt to changing needs by incorporating modular areas within or on board the yacht.
Containers aboard Mission serve various purposes. One container could be equipped with scientific instruments for research, while another could store water toys. With a cruising speed of 12 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles, this 1,800 GT ship offers uncompromised support for marine scientific research and data collection. According to Micca Ferrero, owner of ICON Yachts, “MISSION represents ICON’s commitment to innovation and purpose-driven travel, redefining what an explorer yacht can achieve in sustainability, modularity, and experiential impact.
