Ingenious glazing floods the vessel with natural light.
This year’s Monaco Yacht Show saw Feadship unveil quite a sharp concept for superyachts.
Slice has a cutting-edge exterior engineered to brighten up the entire interior. Studio De Voogt designed the vessel by slicing it in half and adding a glass strip between the halves, according to the Dutch yard. From bow to stern, the transparent panel will bring natural light into the ship and allow for natural ventilation.
Slice’s architecture isn’t the only anomaly. The vessel’s main deck features a monumental atrium with cascading circular balconies. A futuristic take on the inside of the Guggenheim sets the tone for the rest of the apartment.
The interior was crafted by Dutch designer Marco van Ham, combining a subtle, neutral palette with glossy and matte materials. Instead of teak, Feadship requested marble, onyx, liquid metal, silver leaf, shagreen, straw marquetry, and even pyrite be used throughout the vessel. A spacious, open layout eliminates the problem of cramped, boxy rooms. Cabins can accommodate up to 20 guests (or 12 for commercial purposes) and 24 crew members. In addition to its private terrace with a swimming pool, the owner’s suite has a small terrace with a hot tub.
Meanwhile, on the aft deck of Slice, there is a multi-level pool measuring 33 feet that Feadship says was designed using “data science.” In other words, the designers researched where it should be placed (and added hidden dampers) so that the water wouldn’t splash around as you cruise. There is also a passerelle that opens up at the touch of a button, a forward tender garage, a large beach club, a sky lounge, a Jacuzzi, and a number of open-air lounges.
Two Azimuthing pods will be powered by dual-fuel generators powered by methanol and non-fossil diesel (Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil). Yacht speeds are estimated at 16 knots, cruising speeds at 11 knots, and range at approximately 5,000 miles. The hotel also has the option of replacing one of the generators with fuel cells in the future, which would generate clean, green energy.
Feadship has been creating fully engineered concepts for over a decade to inspire future owners. This is the yard’s 11th design. It is available for immediate construction and could be delivered by the end of 2027.
