The latest addition to Sunreef’s fleet, the 80 Sunreef Power Eco, demonstrates that sustainable superyachts can seamlessly blend style with environmental consciousness. This eco-friendly vessel made its official U.S. debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, showcasing innovative green technologies that prioritize energy efficiency and zero carbon emissions while at sea. Although the model was a strong contender for the Best of Show award at FLIBS, it ultimately yielded the top honor to Azimut’s Grande 36M.
Appropriately named after the Norse sun goddess, Sól, this superyacht incorporates solar panels that have been seamlessly integrated into its hulls, bimini roof, and superstructure. This advanced “solar skin” features the industry’s most efficient solar cells and is remarkably lightweight, making it one of the world’s lightest photovoltaic systems, according to Sunreef. Covering an area of approximately 2,150 square feet, this setup can harness up to 36 kWp of solar energy, ensuring a consistent supply of clean power on board.
Furthermore, Sunreef emphasizes that Sól boasts the largest battery bank in its 80-foot class. Impressively, these batteries are 30 percent lighter than comparable options available on the market. Capable of generating 990 kWh, this battery system powers all of the yacht’s onboard amenities and its two 360 kW electric motors. The batteries provide Sól with the ability to cruise for up to 300 nautical miles without emitting any fumes, generating noise, or causing vibration.
The owners of the yacht expressed their commitment to sustainability, highlighting the importance of an electric “Eco” boat that aligns with their values in a recent interview with Sunreef.
Despite its eco-friendly features, Sól does not compromise on luxury. This custom cruiser was meticulously tailored to the owners’ preferences, with Sunreef’s team collaborating closely with the family to define the layout, choose materials, and select furnishings.
The spacious and airy living areas are anchored by a generous main salon, which features a lounge and wet bar. Inside, there are four elegant cabins, providing comfortable accommodations for up to eight guests. The color palette within the living spaces showcases an array of subtle hues that harmonize with the bold, contemporary furniture.
As you step outside, the protected aft cockpit houses an alfresco dining area, a lounge, and comfortable sunbeds. A few steps further aft, the aft platform hosts a variety of water toys, while at the opposite end, the bow terrace offers an inviting spa pool. At the pinnacle of the yacht, the flybridge is equipped with a C-shaped dining area, a bar, and oversized sun pads.
The owners have outlined their plans to spend their summers in the Northeast and their winters in the Bahamas and the Caribbean, ensuring that Sól will bask in plenty of sunshine throughout the year.
