The design’s distinctive look, which evokes Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, was not, however, inspired by the iconic painting.
Legend has it that the Cartier Crash was born in 1967 after a client brought in a damaged Cartier Baignoire to Cartier’s London store, claiming it had been ruined in an automobile accident. This incident reportedly sparked the idea for the now-famous timepiece.
