Sofia Richie’s $200K ‘Melted’ Cartier Watch

Sofia Richie Grainge continues to captivate with her signature quiet luxury aesthetic. On November 14, 2024, the model and influencer made an appearance on the Therapuss podcast, showcasing her effortlessly chic style—complete with a show-stopping accessory.

While engaging in conversation with host Jake Shane, Sofia, 26, kept her outfit simple but stylish, wearing jeans, a white t-shirt, and a black leather jacket. However, it was her accessories that truly stole the spotlight. In addition to her gold bracelets and, of course, her enormous diamond engagement ring from husband Elliot Grainge, Sofia wore a stunning Cartier Crash watch.

TikTok users quickly noticed the luxury timepiece, recognizing its unmistakable, warped oval-shaped design. The Cartier Crash is known for its distinctive look, and its price tag is equally eye-catching. Depending on the specific model, this watch can retail for as much as $300,000. The version Sofia wore, which features a brown leather band and gold face, is estimated to be priced between $200,000 and $250,000.

“Just casually wearing a house on her wrist. Icon,” one TikTok user commented on a clip from the podcast. Another user exclaimed, “Sofia’s watch is so iconic😭.” A third user wrote, “Ugh, she’s wearing my dream watch😍.”

The Cartier Crash, famous for its “melted” face, has gained significant popularity in recent years, thanks in part to celebrity fans like JAY Z, Tom Brady, and Timothée Chalamet, as noted by Sotheby’s.

Sotheby’s describes Cartier’s design philosophy as focusing on the basics of form, using simple shapes like circles or squares and then bending or elongating them in highly refined ways. The asymmetry of the Cartier Crash, for instance, makes it appear as though Cartier took an oval shape and “crashed” it into an entirely new form. The design’s distinctive look, which evokes Salvador Dalí’s The Persistence of Memory, was not, however, inspired by the iconic painting.

Legend has it that the Cartier Crash was born in 1967 after a client brought in a damaged Cartier Baignoire to Cartier’s London store, claiming it had been ruined in an automobile accident. This incident reportedly sparked the idea for the now-famous timepiece.

While discussing her watch, Sofia also shared a humorous moment from her life as a new mother. She revealed that her 5-month-old daughter, Eloise, already has her own cell phone. “Eloise has a little baby phone, that we get to text, or I like to text,” Sofia explained. Host Jake Shane added, “I say, ‘Good morning, Eloise!’”

Sofia went on to explain that whoever is with Eloise gets the phone, and that day, her friend Ali was holding it while Sofia was chatting. Shane then recounted a recent exchange with Eloise’s phone: “I said, ‘Eloise, do you mind if me and your mommy talk about how perfect you are on the podcast today?’ And she said, ‘No, keep my name out of your mouth.’ And I said, ‘Eloise, excuse me.’ She said, ‘I hate you.’”

Laughing, Sofia joked, “We had a talking,” to which Shane responded, “Eloise has a little bit of an attitude.”

The moment, playful and lighthearted, highlighted the relatable side of Sofia’s life as a new mother while keeping her signature cool composure. With her high-fashion choices and down-to-earth humor, Sofia Richie Grainge continues to endear herself to fans, blending luxury with relatable moments.
