A distinctive green dial distinguishes the one-off titanium Ref. 5270.
With its latest charitable timepiece, Patek Philippe has gone all out horologically.
Reference 5270, the company’s flagship perpetual calendar chronograph, features an exclusive titanium case and unique green dial, making it a one-of-a-kind watch.
In and of itself, a titanium Patek Philippe is a rare item. With the exception of a few one-off pieces, the Genevan outfit rarely uses titanium, such as the titanium Patek Philippe Ref. 5033 that raised $1.9 million at Christie’s auction in 2020. It will be the first time that a titanium case will be placed in a Ref. 5270 watch.
A far cry from last year’s olive green Nautilus 5711/1A or this year’s Ref. 5205R, the family-owned brand has created an original shade for the watch’s face for this auction. In addition to the perpetual calendar displays at 6 o’clock, this piece sports a moon phase complication at 6 o’clock that is harmoniously arranged. At 12 o’clock, a double aperture displays the day and the month, and at 6 o’clock, an analog date appears.
With its transparent sapphire crystal caseback, you can clearly see the in-house split-seconds movement, Calibre CH 29-535 PS, along with an inscription that reads “Children Action 2022.” You can also choose to cover the inner workings of the watch with an interchangeable solid titanium caseback. Ref. 5270 also comes with a black alligator leather strap with a titanium fold-over clasp. Apart from that, the timeless design of the watch has not changed at all. Concave bezel and two-tiered lugs, as well as satin-brushed and polished pushers, are signatures of the watch.
At the Children Action Gala on November 7, a unique chronograph will be auctioned to raise funds to help impoverished children worldwide. In spite of the titanium case and exclusive dial, the watch is likely to sell for seven figures, but it’s all in the name of charity, so there is no pre-auction estimate.
