As of now, the lofty idea is ten stories above ground.

Developers are getting creative in the increasingly crowded aquatic landscape by building luxury residential buildings that have pools. An example of this kind of out-of-the-box thinking is the world’s largest floating acrylic pool, which was unveiled at Embassy Gardens in London today.

Since the structure hovers about 115 feet above the ground, it’s aptly dubbed Sky Pool. 82 feet long, it connects the two Embassy Gardens towers at their roofs—46 feet of which are suspended, but residents who are afraid of heights can paddle at either end of the structure, where the structure is docked on rooftops and more closely resembles two ordinary outdoor pools.

Arup, Eckersley O’Callaghan, and Reynolds Polymer Technologies, an acrylic fabricator, collaborated on this project that suspended so much water in midair. From a Mars concept house for astronauts to an overhaul of the New York TWA Flight Center, Arup has worked on everything from the Jewel Changi Airport in Singapore to the Camp Adventure tower in Denmark.

In order to ensure the Embassy Gardens structure’s safety, Reynolds’ facility in Colorado first built it before shipping it to London. With a bottom that’s nearly 12 inches thick, the 10-foot pool won’t crack under all the water (plus people). If you are still a little squeamish about swimming that high up, you can rest assured that its manufacturers have tested it a lot for safety as well.

There’s no fee to take a dip, of course. An Eg:Le Club membership is automatically granted to all residents of Embassy Gardens, which gives them access to the futuristic water feature as well as a wide array of other facilities such as a gym, movie theater, lounge, as well as an indoor pool that is more traditional. At the current exchange, prices start at about “.4 million for those interested in investing.
