The $5 Billion Turtle-Shaped Floating City of Saudi Arabia

Up to 60,000 guests will be able to stay aboard the superyacht, Pangeos, which also boasts a mall and a beach club.

An upcoming $5 billion terayacht called ‘Pangeos’ will be based in Saudi Arabia. Pangeos will be the world’s largest floating structure when it is completed. It will be shaped like a turtle and can accommodate up to 60,000 people. It was designed by Italian design studio Lazzarini and “takes its name from Pangea, the supercontinent that existed millions of years ago during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras.”

According to Lazzarini: “Translating this into a somewhat futuristic expression, Pangeos extends its length for 550 meters (1,800 ft) and measures 610 meters (2,000 ft) at its widest point — the wings. If realized, the turtle-shaped vessel will become the world’s largest structure ever built.”

An apartment building will be built on each wing of the tearayacht, with 19 villas and 64 apartments in total. Lazzarini expects to invest $8 billion in the construction of Pangeos, which will take eight years to complete. A total of nine different bows will also be included in Pangeos, which is further divided into several blocks.

From the port entrance, the bows extend into a wide terraced villa, which leads to private houses, buildings, and rooftop terraces, and an upper ‘shell’ zone where flying vehicles can land. In the basement, the design team houses 30,000 cells or cluster compartments and proposes an unsinkable floating solution, which is primarily steel.

There will be a rooftop garden, a mall, a beach club, and a 650-meter wide and 600-meter long ‘Terashipyard’ infrastructure that provides direct access to the sea from Pangeos. With virtually unlimited green energy supplies, Pangeos can sail nonstop around the world even though it is proposed for Saudi Arabia. The Pangeos draws its power from ocean waves and its solar panels on its roof, with nine HTS engines delivering 16,800 HP each.

In addition, “the virtual spaces of the watercraft can also be purchased under an NFT collection,” according to Lazzarini. Users will need to collect certain content and log in with their credentials to access the virtual spaces.

“The same credentials will also work as a property deposit in case of a real construction,” explains the studio.‍
