Nicole Kidman has mastered the art of traveling discreetly. In her September 2024 cover interview with L’Officiel USA, the actress shared how she managed to blend in during a visit to Fire Island, a popular Long Island, New York, destination renowned for its lively atmosphere and vibrant social scene.

Kidman recounted her trip to Fire Island, where she attended a Fourth of July celebration. Despite the island’s reputation for its “wild parties” and bustling boulevard, Kidman successfully maintained a low profile. “I wore a hat,” she explained, revealing how this simple accessory helped her avoid drawing attention.

In the interview, Kidman also discussed her passion for travel and how she has instilled this love in her children. She has two children, Bella and Connor, from her previous marriage to Tom Cruise, and two daughters, Sunday and Faith, with her current husband, Keith Urban. “My kids are keen travelers,” Kidman noted. “Although they might be less enthusiastic about it now that they’re older, they still show a strong interest in exploring the world. They joke that they have more passport stamps than many people in their eighties.”

Kidman attributed her children’s extensive passport stamps to her own career, which has required her to travel globally for film projects. Her work has taken her family to a variety of countries, including Morocco, France, Australia, England, Scotland, Ireland, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. “Traveling for my films has exposed my kids to diverse cultures,” she said.

For Kidman, travel is more than just a personal preference; it’s a crucial aspect of her “global education.” “Traveling has helped me develop empathy and provided me with insights into people’s lives that I wouldn’t have otherwise encountered,” she explained. “I believe it’s important to reach beyond one’s own boundaries to understand and appreciate different perspectives.”

Kidman’s upbringing emphasized the value of exploring and learning from different cultures, which she credits for her own travel habits. “I was raised to always seek to understand and learn from others,” she said. “That’s likely why I have such a strong drive to travel. It broadens my understanding of how people view their own countries in the context of the global community.”

Looking ahead, Kidman is set to star in the upcoming film Babygirl, slated for release by A24 in December. The erotic drama features Kidman as a business executive involved in an affair with her intern. Reflecting on her role, Kidman described it as both challenging and exhausting. Speaking to Vanity Fair in August, she admitted, “There were moments when I felt overwhelmed and just wanted to step back. Despite that, I felt a strong pull to continue with the role. I’ve done some revealing films before, but nothing quite like this.”
