In celebration of the region’s culture and heritage, the oceanfront resort will open on January 15.
In the coastal region of Mexico, Tulum is home to many design-forward luxury boutique hotels, but there are a few larger resorts in the area that are both luxurious and honor the area’s rich cultural heritage at the same time. In contrast, Conrad Hotels & Resorts is changing that.
As Robb Report revealed in its first look, the Hilton luxury brand will open the Conrad Tulum Riviera Maya on January 15 to give travelers a taste of the “real” Tulum.
“The hotel in its design and the experience it offers provides a return to Tulum’s true identity through a uniquely modern expression,” hotel manager Javier Martinez told Robb Report.
The 349-room oceanfront sanctuary is eight miles north of the town center, nestled in a secluded bay. Hidden cenotes and colorful wildlife are waiting to be discovered in the jungle and pristine Caribbean waters. Using natural fabrics and materials, the hotel echoes the surroundings with a clever interpretation of Mayan architecture. You can also expect life-size, hand-painted jaguar murals in all of the guest bathrooms, as well as a jaw-dropping macrame installation in the hotel lobby.
Rooms feature floor-to-ceiling windows with panoramic views of the ocean, elegant furnishings, and all the expected amenities. On the ground floor, there is a plunge pool, and on the higher floors, the rooms have a private balcony with a relaxation tub. Suites offer more space with a living room, dining room for eight, and a master bath featuring a soaking tub and rain shower.
A hotel’s spa is another highlight, as it offers guests the opportunity to experience the country’s culture and improve their health at the same time. Incorporating traditional Mexican herbalism and healing techniques with modern science and technology, the spa is nestled among lush mangroves inspired by Mayan legends. In Mayan Manteada, for example, shawls are tied around the waist to relax and realign the body as part of a massage technique. There is also a Shaman on staff to perform ceremonies such as the “sacred cenote” and “purifying gratitude.”
It is also possible for guests to spend their time snorkeling, kayaking, or relaxing by one of the five pools during their stay. As well as offering beachside weddings, soirées, conventions, conferences, and more, the hotel boasts the only purpose-built event center in Tulum.
Also, the hotel offers a host of dining options. The hotel boasts five restaurants ranging from a sophisticated fine dining establishment headed by chef Jera Miranda to a Teppanyaki restaurant that combines traditional Japanese and Southeast Asian cooking techniques with local ingredients. As for the six bars, they serve regional spirits and refreshing tropical cocktails, as well as fine wines, and if that doesn’t satisfy you, Tulum’s legendary local cuisine is just around the corner.
“The hotel is one-of-a-kind in its multitude of options for those seeking varying types of experiences both on-site and in the greater destination of Tulum,” Martinez adds. The price of a room starts at $700 per night and that of a suite at $1,000.
