Koenigsegg Caught on Fire

If you own a Koenigsegg Jesko, today might not be the best day for a drive. The Swedish automaker has requested that owners of the $3 million supercar refrain from using it temporarily, according to multiple reports. The reason for this precaution is that the company is investigating why one of the vehicles caught fire in Greece over the weekend.

On Saturday morning, video footage emerged online showing a Jesko engulfed in flames on the side of a road near Marousi, as reported by Motor1.com. The car, which was part of the Six2Six Europe Tour supercar rally, was reportedly moving at slow speeds when the fire started, although some accounts suggest it might have been driven aggressively. Fortunately, both the driver and passenger escaped unharmed, but the car was almost completely destroyed, with only its tires remaining recognizable after the fire was extinguished.

In response to the incident, Koenigsegg issued a Do-No-Drive Order (DNDO) to Jesko owners through an email, as noted by Egg Registry. The message informed owners about the fire and requested them not to drive their vehicles until the cause of the blaze could be determined.

“Out of an abundance of caution, we ask all Jesko owners and drivers to hold off on driving their cars until we have had a chance to understand the situation better,” Koenigsegg’s email reportedly read.

As of Tuesday morning, Koenigsegg had not responded to a request for comment from Robb Report.

The Jesko owner involved in the incident, an unidentified Spaniard, is likely relieved that they and their passenger were unharmed, though undoubtedly disheartened by the loss of the supercar. The vehicle was identified as the Jesko NÜR Edition, a bespoke model featuring an exposed carbon-fiber finish that adds $443,400 to its already hefty price. Adding to the misfortune, the owner had only recently taken delivery of the car a few weeks prior and had driven it just 100 miles.

To date, Koenigsegg has produced only 28 Jesko models, each powered by a rear-mid-mounted twin-turbocharged V-8 engine that generates 1,280 horsepower. The company plans to build just 125 units in total before ending production.
