In the pursuit of excellence, Aston Martin has leveraged the expertise of its Formula 1 team, including renowned driver Fernando Alonso, to advance the development of the Valhalla. The culmination of their collaborative efforts has brought this highly anticipated hybrid supercar remarkably close to production readiness.
Aston Martin, a distinguished British marque, recently provided a comprehensive update on the Valhalla, shedding light on the pivotal role played by its Formula 1 team’s consulting division, Aston Martin Performance Technologies (AMPT). This partnership was established to address three critical facets of development: driving dynamics, aerodynamics, and materials. Notably, it was in the realm of driving dynamics that Alonso and his teammate Lance Stroll made substantial contributions, striving to achieve a driver-centric experience. This influence extends to the vehicle’s interior, with the driving position closely resembling that of the AMR23 race car from the current season.
AMPT’s technical acumen also made a significant impact on improving aerodynamic performance. The Valhalla boasts an array of active-aero elements, such as front and rear wings reminiscent of those found on the Aston Martin Formula 1 car. Moreover, an enhanced underbody design generates an impressive 1,322 pounds of downforce at speeds of 149 mph. The team’s proficiency in lightweight materials further informed the vehicle’s construction, notably the implementation of a carbon-fiber monocoque.
Aston Martin also unveiled additional details regarding the Valhalla’s hybrid powertrain. Initially conceived with a V-6 engine, it now houses a twin-turbo flat-plane V-8 heart. This powerplant harmoniously combines with three electric motors, delivering a formidable total output of 998 horsepower. The strategic placement of these electric motors, with two situated on the front axle and one integrated into the rear eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, equips the Valhalla with all-wheel drive capabilities.
Perhaps the most exhilarating revelation is that the Valhalla, initially announced in 2019, is approaching its final stages of development. The automaker anticipates the first operational prototype to grace the road later this year, with production of the $800,000 supercar slated to commence in 2024.
