An iconic request from Louis Vuitton
The luggage maker Louis Vuitton opened his first store in Paris in 1854 on Rue Neuve des Capucine. Initially known for his canvas trunks and wardrobe cases, Vuitton soon expanded his product line to meet the demands of his elite (and often royal) clients. Louis Vuitton’s son Georges became the new leader of the French luxury house in 1892 after his tragic death. During the reign of Georges and his son Gaston-Louis, the brand continued to innovate, expanding into the world of handbags. A champagne transport vessel was the brand’s most iconic custom order in 1932. A champagne producer asked for a leather bag that he could give as a gift. The producer only had two requirements considering the uniqueness of the order: it was to withstand both travel and time without breaking multiple bottles.
A Champagne Carrier Like No Other
As Gaston-Louis was eager to take on this challenge, construction began on the timeless Noé. Its radical design would become a house signature as it met both of the client’s demands. Noah is constructed with a sturdy bucket-shape and rectangular base to hold up to five bottles of champagne. It is secured with a drawstring closure (to prevent any bumping or possible shattering). In addition, the bag’s name is a true tribute to this bubbly beverage. This French word means “Noah”, a reference to the biblical story of Noah’s Ark. The first winemaker of all time can be remembered for more than just his role as a savior of the world’s animals during the great flood. When Noah returned to dry land, he discovered he enjoyed consuming wine, and the rest is history
Noah became a coveted luxury handbag not only for its practical champagne-carrying capabilities, but also for its material and size options. In response to the bag’s popularity, Louis Vuitton expanded its size and material options. In addition to the classic monogram canvas, the Noé also comes in Damier Azur, striated Epi leather, and special edition prints.
NéoNoé: The Noé’s lustful little sister
As Louis Vuitton’s signature bag, Noé, was re-imagined in 2017, attracting a whole new generation of handbag lovers. In addition to its sleek, minimalist silhouette, the NéoNoé embraces a contrasting interior lining, removable top handle, and smoother structure. In addition, the slightly smaller NéoNoé BB is ideal for everyday use, as it is only three inches shorter than the original Noé. From Jeff Koons’ lustworthy pattern design to the graffiti-inspired Crafty collection, the NéoNoé embodies Louis Vuitton’s collaboration DNA.
