Tim Cook’s Madison Club In La Quinta

This deal actually closed a very long time ago, back near the dawn of time. (Two years ago, to be precise, long before COVID-19 had become a general lexicon and face masks were a political talking point. Although long suspected, it has taken until now to confirm that Apple chieftain Tim Cook bought a mansion for $10.1 million in La Quinta’s celebrity-infested Madison Club.

Cook and several other celebrities were exposed to COVID during a private La Quinta birthday party for his Madison Club neighbor Lucian Grainge in March 2020. Grainge was later hospitalized from complications related to the illness.

It was developed by Discovery Land Company and is primarily known for its expensive homes, Tom Fazio-designed golf course, and celebrity residents. Among Madison Club homeowners are Lori Loughlin and Mossimo Giannulli, Cindy Crawford, Kourtney Kardashian, Kris Jenner, Nike founder Phil Knight and Scooter Braun.

Although Cook paid $10.1 million for his Madison Club estate, public records show it was only $9.1 million. In either case, he got a great deal. With desert home values still skyrocketing, the .8-acre spread is likely worth somewhere around $12 million today. Cook, however, is unlikely to require the extra equity with a reputed net worth of $1.5 billion.

The sprawling home measures 10,000 square feet and has a vaguely Germanic look. With only a few shades of brown and beige balancing out the whites and grays that otherwise fill the interiors, the place is essentially colorless throughout. In spite of this, there is plenty of wall space for colorful modern art collections, and the sunset views are breathtaking. There are five bedrooms in the home, each with an ensuite full bathroom, as well as two powder rooms.

As you might expect from a property belonging to a CEO of the world’s most valuable company, the house is fully furnished. The property also has a lounge, executive office, and a wet bar with a custom billiard table. In addition to the gourmet kitchen, there are two butler’s kitchens with top-of-the-line stainless appliances. Automated glass pocket doors enable seamless indoor/outdoor living.

Madison Club residents appreciate the view of the ruggedly beautiful Santa Rosa Mountains from the backyard of the home, which faces due west. There is an infinity-edged pool with a swim-up bar and Baja shelf for watery sunbathing out back, and a patio with a fire pit and grill. For al fresco entertaining, air-conditioned loggias are perfect. Residents at Madison Club also have access to a centrally-located clubhouse with fine dining and a spa/gym.

The 60-year-old CEO of Apple received a $750 million payout from the company last month. Apple’s market cap now tops $2 trillion. Cook’s main residence remains Palo Alto, up north in Silicon Valley.
