Just over five years after Serena Williams sold her long-time Bel Air home for nearly $4 million less than the original $12 million asking price, the retired tennis star’s former estate is back on the market with a $13.5 million price tag. Louis DeLaura and Ernie Stone of Sotheby’s International Realty are handling the listing.
The 23-time Grand Slam singles champion owned the property in the Stone Canyon neighborhood for 13 years, from 2006 to spring 2019, before it sold for $8.1 million. Records indicate the home was last purchased by L.A.-based interior designer Rodrigo Vargas and his partner Frederick Storey for just under $8 million in late 2020.
Built in the 1930s, the Colonial Mediterranean structure has been remodeled and expanded over the years. It sits on a fenced and gated double parcel spanning nearly 3 acres, minutes from Hotel Bel-Air. The home features six bedrooms and seven bathrooms across a little more than 6,100 square feet of two-level living space, adorned with glass walls that open to grounds with mature trees and water features.
Entering through double front doors via a lengthy vine-covered colonnade connected to a motor court and three-car garage, you are welcomed by an entry foyer that leads to a semi-circular living room with marble floors and built-in bookshelves. Other highlights include a wood-paneled study with a bar, a formal dining room topped by a stylish chandelier, and an all-white kitchen equipped with limestone countertops, high-end stainless appliances, and a window-lined breakfast nook.
Upstairs, the elegant primary suite features a Juliet balcony, a walk-in closet, and a luxurious bathroom with dual vanities, a clawfoot soaking tub, and a steam shower. Although there’s no tennis court, the private backyard offers a pool and spa surrounded by a flagstone terrace, an open-air cabana with a fireplace, and a brick-clad terrace perfect for al fresco entertaining.
Williams, who married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in 2017, moved on to purchase a $6.7 million home in a gated Beverly Hills community and a sleek, 7,000-square-foot waterfront home in Jupiter, Florida, which was featured in Architectural Digest in 2021.
