It’s nice to be a Bezos! As first reported by The Real Deal, Miguel and Jacklyn Bezos — the stepfather and mother of Amazon overlord Jeff Bezos — are widely believed to have paid $74 million for two side-by-side mansions in Coral Gables, a wealthy neighborhood about seven miles south of Miami. This waterfront property is nestled in a guarded community, and together it stretches four contiguous acres. Two different sellers sold the two properties in two separate transactions. The Bezos parents will spend $40 million on the house next door, which is still in escrow. The house next door, which closed last week, will cost them a whopping $34 million. In a report by the New York Post, which cited unnamed sources, Jeff Bezos himself (unsurprisingly) paid for the real estate spending spree.
Raul Colvoz, who was the former CEO of PetsMD, and his wife Raquel Cordon, a real estate agent, sold the house for $34 million. In 2018, the couple bought the property for “just” $8.5 million, but renovated and expanded it extensively before listing it for $34.9 million this year.
“Real Housewives of Miami” star Nicole Martin and her husband Anthony M. Lopez, a flashy attorney with a penchant for Ferraris and private jets, are selling the $40 million house next door to the Bezoses. Three years ago, Lopez purchased the house for $14 million; he and Martin renovated the entire property, which was recently photographed for Architectural Digest for its “chicly understated” look.
While obviously a massive sum of money, the $74 million deal is only the latest in a long string of huge real estate deals in south Florida, where billionaire tech moguls from Silicon Valley, as well as wealthy financiers from New York and abroad, are flooding the area. Oracle kingpin Larry Ellison recently bought a Palm Beach County estate for 3 million – the highest price ever paid for a Florida property.A former journalist, Lauren Sanchez, maintains a fleet of luxury homes throughout the United States as one of the world’s wealthiest men. In addition to luxury condos on New York City’s posh Fifth Avenue, they own a historic Washington, D.C. mansion, a Seattle townhouse, and Maui’s $78 million oceanfront property. Currently, the couple lives in a Beverly Hills estate worth 5 million.
With six bedrooms and seven bathrooms, the $34 million house spans nearly 13,000 square feet. A sleek kitchen, walls of glass, and an expansive foyer are among the contemporary interior features. A saltwater pool and extensive patios are at the back, which are serviced by a complete outdoor kitchen.
