Elon Musk and singer Grimes are reportedly planning to find a home that would allow Musk’s children from multiple relationships, along with their mothers, to live under one roof. According to a source from PEOPLE, the 53-year-old tech entrepreneur and the 36-year-old artist have been house-hunting in Bel Air, with the aim of finding a residence that accommodates their unique family structure. Musk and Grimes are co-parents to three children: their 4-year-old son X Æ A-12, 3 ½-year-old daughter Exa Dark Sideræl, and their youngest, Techno Mechanicus, born in 2022.
In addition to his children with Grimes, Musk has nine other children from previous relationships. He shares five sons with his first wife, writer Justine Wilson. The former couple welcomed their first child, Nevada Alexander, in 2002, though he tragically passed away at only 10 weeks old. Musk and Wilson later welcomed twins, Vivian Jenna and Griffin, in 2004, followed by triplets, Kai, Saxon, and Damian, in 2006.
Musk is also father to three children with Shivon Zilis, an executive at Neuralink. Musk and Zilis welcomed twins in 2021, and they confirmed the birth of their third child in June 2023. Musk’s blended family structure has sparked conversations around co-parenting, and his partners have shown a commitment to fostering strong relationships between their children.
Grimes and Zilis recently clarified their positive relationship after Grimes publicly addressed their family dynamics. Grimes, in an open message posted on X (formerly Twitter), wrote, “I spoke with Shivon at length finally, which was long overdue. This wasn’t her fault, plz don’t be angry at her! We respect each other a lot and we’re excited to become friends and have the kids grow up together.” She highlighted how societal expectations often create unnecessary tension between women, expressing her admiration for Zilis. Zilis responded warmly, affirming their newfound connection and mutual respect. She looked forward to arranging a “kiddo play date,” emphasizing the unity of their blended family.
Musk, who often shares insights into his personal philosophy on parenting, revealed earlier this year that he has no plans to automatically pass down shares of his companies to his children. Speaking at The Wall Street Journal’s CEO Council event, he explained, “I am definitely not of the school of automatically giving my kids some shares of the companies, even if they have no interest or inclination or ability to manage the company. I think that’s a mistake.” This perspective reflects Musk’s belief in cultivating independence and passion in his children’s pursuits, rather than imposing responsibilities or expectations related to his business empire.
The search for a shared home aligns with Musk and Grimes’ commitment to creating a connected family environment, despite their split. While Musk and Grimes are no longer romantically involved, they are devoted to co-parenting and providing an enriching environment for their children. Recently, Grimes was seen touring another home in Upper Bel Air, signaling the couple’s ongoing search to establish a family residence that suits their unique setup.
By integrating their children into one family home, Musk and Grimes are focusing on creating stability and nurturing relationships within their expansive family unit. This collaborative approach to family living reflects Musk’s open-minded views on modern family dynamics. As Musk’s career remains in the spotlight, he has maintained a distinct perspective on both his role as a father and his approach to inheritance, reflecting the principles he values in parenting and life.
