Priyanka Chopra, the “Quantico” actress married to Nick Jonas, has been mistakenly identified as Deepak Chopra’s daughter more than once (ahem, Rosie O’Donnell), but there’s no doubt that Mallika Chopra is indeed the self-help guru’s daughter. It’s not just that the 50-year-old India native has followed in her father’s footsteps by becoming CEO of Chopra Global, but she also cofounded the popular YouTube channel The Chopra Well, with her famous dad and brother Gotham; she’s also an author and public speaker.Chopra and her venture capitalist husband Sumant Mandal have also been investing in real estate lately, having sold their longtime Santa Monica home for a Brentwood mansion that is still under construction.
For $7 million and change, the couple sold the Santa Monica home they’ve lived in for more than a decade to UCLA professor Michael Grunstein and his wife Judith — an impressive profit over the $3.6 million they bought it back in 2010; at the same time, they spent $19.3 million on building a new home that was off-market and is still under construction.
Originally built in the 1940s, the existing structure offers three bedrooms and three-and-a-half baths in just over 3,400 square feet, and was last sold to Mosh Fine Homes in April 2019 for .75 million. The old digs, however, have since been bulldozed to build a newer and bigger mansion with 8,993 square feet and two levels, plus an attached two-car garage as well as a pool and spa. The old digs were bulldozed in April 2019.With an attached two-car garage and an inviting porch, the wood-clad structure in the Santa Monica Canyon neighborhood is on a desirable street. A modern farmhouse built in 2010, it was designed and built by Stacey Jacobsen of SJ Studio and her husband Jeff Jacobsen at the same time Chopra first saw and fell in love with it.
In total, there are four bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths spread over 4,300 square feet of rustic yet modern open-concept living space accented with reclaimed wood beam ceilings and French oak floors. The living room has a double-height ceiling and a wet bar that spills out to a fireside patio that is perfect for entertaining al fresco, as well as meditating. There is also a formal dining room with a chandelier, a gourmet kitchen with a breakfast nook that opens to the aforementioned patio, an eat-in island, a wine fridge, Miele and Sub-Zero appliances, and a wine fridge.
Featuring soaring vaulted ceilings, the primary suite also includes dual vanities, an oval soaking tub, and a walk-in rain shower. Outdoors, there is also a raised wood deck with a fire pit.
