Chris Wallace’s $6.4 Million Georgian-Revival Home

Chris Wallace, the veteran broadcaster, has announced his departure from CNN after three years to pursue podcasting and streaming ventures. Alongside this career shift, Wallace is also parting ways with his elegant Georgian Revival-style home in Washington, D.C.’s prestigious Kalorama neighborhood. The property, listed by Michael Rankin of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, is on the market for $6.4 million. This marks a significant increase from the $1.1 million that Wallace and his wife Lorraine paid for the home in early 1997, nearly 28 years ago. Since then, the couple has extensively remodeled the property.

Originally built in the late 1920s for Frank R. Jelleff, founder of a local department store, the red-brick home has a mansard roof and exudes timeless sophistication. During Wallace’s ownership, the house served as a venue for hosting notable figures, including the late Senator Ted Kennedy, Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, and actor George Clooney. The residence spans approximately 7,000 square feet and features four bedrooms and five bathrooms. Interior highlights include hardwood floors, arched doorways, and intricate crown molding.

A picturesque walkway leads from the sidewalk to a columned front entrance, opening into a grand foyer with a traditional staircase. The main level includes a living room illuminated by a large bay window and centered around an 18th-century marble fireplace. Adjacent to this space is a formal dining room, which is accented by a crystal chandelier and connects to the home’s butler’s pantry. The kitchen is outfitted with white cabinetry and high-end stainless steel appliances, making it both functional and stylish. Additionally, a cozy study, clad in wood and lined with bookshelves, offers an ideal retreat for reading or work.

The upper levels of the home are equally impressive. The primary suite boasts its own fireplace, an adjoining office, a spacious walk-in closet, and a luxurious bathroom complete with a soaking tub and standalone shower. Additional bedrooms are also located on this floor, while the topmost level provides ample storage space. The lower level houses a recreation room, a mirrored gym, and a guest suite outfitted with its own kitchenette, offering privacy for visitors.

Outside, the property is equally inviting. The walled and gated grounds cover less than a quarter-acre but are thoughtfully designed for relaxation and entertainment. A greenery-surrounded terrace offers ample space for outdoor lounging and socializing. The home also features an attached two-car garage and a motor court for added convenience.

Wallace’s decision to sell the property comes as he and Lorraine shift their focus to spending more time at their home in Annapolis, Maryland. Lorraine, who runs a business supplying homegrown produce to local restaurants, plans to continue managing her venture from there. The couple also intends to keep a smaller residence in Washington, D.C., ensuring they maintain a connection to the capital.

This Kalorama home reflects Wallace’s refined taste and storied career, offering a glimpse into the life of one of journalism’s most respected figures. With its blend of historic charm, modern amenities, and proximity to notable landmarks, the property is poised to attract interest from discerning buyers. For Wallace and his wife, the sale marks the beginning of a new chapter as they embrace life outside the city while exploring fresh opportunities.
