Introducing Swiss-Made 1,000 HP Electric Sports Car Concept

Piëch Automotive is determined not to miss its second chance. The Swiss startup has just introduced an updated version of its all-electric GT concept from 2021, as reported by Car and Driver. This latest iteration boasts a sharper design and a significantly more powerful powertrain.

Initially, Piëch showcased an early version of the GT, then known as the Mark Zero, at the Geneva Motor Show in 2019. Two years later, the company revealed images of a more refined version, blending elements from grand tourers by brands like Aston Martin and Porsche. This model promised a classic design paired with an electric powertrain producing over 600 hp. Although that version never reached production, Piëch has not given up.

The new GT retains the same general shape and proportions as the 2021 version but features more defined lines and distinctive characteristics. Highlights include a sculpted front fascia with razor-thin headlights, a sleek sloping roofline, and an angular rear that exudes athleticism. Currently, the GT exists only as a full-size clay model, so details about the interior remain unclear. However, it will feature a 2+2 seating layout, and Piëch plans to offer an extensive range of color and trim options, ensuring no two cars are identical. This claim is ambitious but likely to attract sports car enthusiasts.

The concept also includes a completely revamped drivetrain. The new configuration features two electric motors, one at the front and one at the rear, providing all-wheel drive. Each motor will generate 503 hp and 406 ft-lbs of torque, resulting in a combined output exceeding 1,000 hp and 800 ft-lbs of torque. This power allows the car to accelerate from zero to 62 mph in just 2.6 seconds, rivaling the Porsche Taycan Turbo S, and achieve a top speed of 187 mph, comparable to the Taycan Turbo GT.

The powertrain is powered by a 90-kWh battery pack, offering a range of 312 miles. This range is impressive, particularly for a sports car, though it is based on Europe’s lenient WLTP testing cycle. Other notable features include a two-speed gearbox—a rarity for EVs—and independent wheel control.

To ensure this version of the GT reaches production, Piëch’s founders, Rea Stark Rajcic and Anton Piëch, son of the late Volkswagen Group head Ferdinand Piëch, have enlisted former Mercedes-AMG executive Tobias Moers. The company plans to collaborate with Canada’s Multimatic, the manufacturer of the second-generation Ford GT, to produce the car. Currently, Piëch is targeting a 2028 launch date with a starting price around $200,000.

The new model promises a classic aesthetic combined with a cutting-edge electric powertrain, aiming to position itself among the top electric sports cars. With a dedicated team and strategic partnerships, Piëch is set on ensuring this version of the GT makes it to market.
