Feadship continues to showcase its commitment to eco-friendliness with its latest concept, Dunes, which was unveiled at the Monaco Yacht Show. This 272-foot vessel is designed to set a new standard in the yachting industry by significantly reducing the potential negative environmental impacts of superyacht operation. Dunes incorporates sustainable features like high scrap-content steel and aluminum in its low-impact construction.
The yacht’s striking design, resembling a floating desert with undulating sand waves, is achieved through an asymmetrical superstructure created by Studio De Voogt. Dunes boasts shaded walk-around decks, spacious outdoor seating areas, and eco-friendly golden maple wood accents instead of teak. The vessel’s design avoids straight lines, with circular and gently curved staircases and full-height glass on doors and windows, complemented by curved overhangs.
Dunes features an uppermost pavilion deck structure made of CO2-negative treated timber, offering excellent insulation. This versatile space includes a Jacuzzi, an informal dining area, and can transform from a nightclub to a conference room. The yacht accommodates six guest staterooms and a luxurious owner’s deck with breathtaking views.
Feadship incorporates an innovative electric propulsion system called ABB Dynafin™, which mimics the motion of a whale’s tail with revolving vertical blades. The system aims for hydrodynamic efficiency of up to 85 percent and is expected to have a prototype available in 2025.
Dunes aligns with Feadship’s goal to achieve net-zero emissions for superyachts, making it a remarkable example of sustainable yacht design.
