Octonauts Kids Film-inspired 160-foot Explorer Yacht

Designed to help you focus on family adventures, Coba is the newest craft from Coquine Design.

A design principle popularized by the US Navy argues most things work best if they are kept simple and unambiguous. Coquine Design’s latest yacht concept follows this principle.

The UK studio has just unveiled a new pocket explorer that focuses on straightforward functionality rather than form. However, this isn’t to say it’s boring. It’s a “head turner,” but not an “attention seeker,” according to Coquine’s creative director Christian Leyk.

Coba, the 160-footer, is named after the adventurous octopus featured in the kid’s film Octonauts and the Caves of Sac Actun. Leyk’s 6-year-old is a huge fan.

In addition to having a shallow draft and high maneuverability, the superyacht also offers enough space for the whole family and would only need a small crew to operate.

Though Coba is below 500 GT, its spacious interior can accommodate up to five seafarers. The living quarters are understated, but you can enjoy the ocean view from the giant observation deck. The spacious owner’s suite also sports fold-out balconies that provide a little extra privacy at times.

An explorer like Coba can accommodate a full arsenal of water toys. The submarine is capable of carrying a Triton 1650/3 submarine, a 30-foot tender and a crew tender, as well as jet skis and cars. A multipurpose crane can also be found under the aft deck.

As for power, Coba could be equipped with an array of different propulsion systems depending on the owner’s preferences. As a go-anywhere vessel, hybrid or electric would be the smart, eco-friendly choice. Leyk says hydrogen is also an option. The hull could also be plated to make it an ice boat.

Despite Coba being just a concept at this point, Leyk assures prospective clients that the project could begin shortly.
